2009 INVIOLABLE
I perceived an element of denunciation in what I
was doing; fads, mania are word concepts of phenomena near the center
of modern anxiety, cards with changing values. Those who deal out history
attack faddists as criminally superficial, or dialectical attack. Cross-cultural
modernism. How we think what we see, and why. Truth claims have become
indeterminate, there are no authorities. The diagram of knowledge in
the world are axiomatic structures. A mirage of sign painting to pleasure
safties and anxieties. Thousands of dialogic threads. The tension betwee
monolithic, historical image, translation in the form of a paradox. Nothing
was to be imposed on experience; the truth was to be discovered, not
constructed. Just as bits of pottery and fragments of bone are items
upon which history might be constructed.
